Courses:

Engineering 101 - PLTW Unleashed

Course Overview: 

This unit is designed to expose students to the PLTW courses available in the curriculum and get a sample of the rigor as well as the topics covered in the full year programs for students.

General Approach:

The approach taken in class will be a variety of different methods of learning for our students. Through short discussions/lectures to team building projects, each student will have an opportunity to learn individually or with a team every day. The instructor will check for the understanding of each student’s comprehension of the concepts along the way.

Course Prerequisites: None

Introduction to Engineering (IED)

Course Description:

This unit is an introduction to different facets of design and will emphasize the following: evolution and history of design, the steps in a design process, the importance of proper sketching techniques, measurement and tools used in design, and the use of those tools and techniques to innovate or invent solutions to real life problems. Students will incorporate Computer Aided Design (CAD) in much of their work and projects.

General Approach:

The approach taken in class will be a variety of different methods of learning for our students. Through short discussions/lectures to team building projects, each student will have an opportunity to learn individually or with a team every day. The teacher will be checking for the understanding of each student’s comprehension of the concepts along the way through formative and summative assessments.

Principles of Engineering (POE)

Course Description:

Principles of Engineering is a broad-based survey course designed to help students understand the field of engineering and engineering technology and its career possibilities. The main purpose of this course is to experience what engineering is all about through theory and hands-on problem solving activities. Students will develop engineering problem solving skills that are involved in post-secondary education programs and engineering careers. The students will explore various systems and manufacturing processes, as well as how engineers address concerns about the social and political consequences of technological change.

Computer Science Engineering (CSE)

Course Description: 

This course is an introduction to different languages in coding. Using many different programs and applications, students will become familiar with HTML, Java, PHP, Python, Scratch & App Inventor. Students will also learn how to build algorithms in order to process and filter data and analyze much of the “how and why” computers use operation systems around the globe.

The approach taken in class will be a variety of different methods of learning for students. Through short discussions/lectures to team building projects, each student will have an opportunity to learn individually or with a team every day.  The teacher will check for the understanding of each student’s comprehension of the concepts along the way through formative and summative assessments.

Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA)

Course Description: 

Civil Engineering and Architecture (CEA) is a high school level course that is appropriate for students who are interested in architecture and civil engineering. The major focus of the CEA course is to expose students to design process, engineering standards, research and analysis, technical documentation, global and human impacts, communication methods, and teamwork. Students learn important aspects of building and site design and development. They apply math, science and standard engineering practices to design both residential and commercial projects and document their work using 3D architectural design software.
